Then and Now, Sheridan-Byron

1938–Sheridan Road @ Byron Street, view north
2023–the same location

We are at the 3900-north block of Sheridan Road.  Up the block is the Sheridan Road station of the North Side ‘L’, and beyond that, Irving Park Road.  The 1938 photo features the the onetime Keystone Vaudeville Theater, recently-remodeled and showing movies as the Mode Theater,

Today the theater is gone from the block, rhe apartment buildings are taller, and trees are more numerous.  The ‘L’ continues to serve the neighborhood.

On the right (east) side of the street was a pool hall where John Dillinger used to hang out. It was an Ace Hardware store until it got torn down a couple of years ago.
