Then and Now, Roscoe-Long

1936–Roscoe Street @ Long Avenue, view west

2024–the same location

We are a few blocks northeast of the Belmont-Central intersection. Poles were the predominant ethnic group in this part of Chicago during the 1930s. When a new park was established in the area, it was dedicated to the great Polish composer, Frederic Chopin. Not many cars on the street then.

The Chopin Park neighborhood of the 2020s now has a significant Hispanic population. Enough cars around to make traffic on Roscoe one-way.
