Then and Now, Western-87th

Some sources tell us that the intersection of Western-87th is the highest point in the City of Chicago. In 1914 there wasn’t even a streetcar line here, and the area was little-developed.

Today this part of Western runs through Dan Ryan Woods, a county forest preserve named after Dan Ryan Sr, the father of “Expressway” Dan Ryan.
