Then and Now, Clarendon-Irving Park

1910–Clarendon Avenue @ Irving Park Boulevard, view north

2021–the same location

Clarendon Avenue is the northern extension of Halsted Street—but without the commercial development.  Located a few blocks from the lake, by 1910 Clarendon was already lined with apartment buildings.  Some decades later, my mother passed this intersection every school day on her way from the Irving Park streetcar line to Immaculata High School at Marine Drive.

Immaculata closed in 1981.  But most of the vintage apartments remain along Clarendon, and Mom would still recognize the neighborhood.
