Then and Now, Prairie-113th

Roseland was settled by Dutch immigrant farmers in the 1840s.  By the time of the older photo the neighborhood was part of Chicago and residentially mature.  The building with the columns on the left is the Sixth Church of Christ, Scientist.

Today the Roseland community is predominantly African-American.  Most of the buildings along Prairie Avenue remain.  The onetime Christian Science church is now the Mission of Faith Baptist Church.
