North-Halsted ‘L’ Curves—CTA’s 1958 Plans

Part of the “CTA of the Future”—as envisioned in 1958—was the elimination of the many sharp curves along the various ‘L’ routes. The illustration shows how the Ravenswood ‘L’ (Brown Line) was to be improved near North and Halsted. This particular project was never implemented. However, CTA did soften the curves on the South Side ‘L’ at Wabash and Harrison.
