Then and Now, Ogden-Wisconsin

1969–Ogden Avenue @ Wisconsin Street, view northeast

2019–the same location

Originally, Ogden Avenue ended its journey into Chicago at Union Park.  In 1925 the city began a project to extend Ogden northeast to Clark-Armitage.  When the work was finished nine years later, hundreds of buildings had been torn down to make way for the new street.  Yet by the time the 1969 photo was taken, the city was preparing to close the section of Ogden north of North Avenue.

In 2019 nearly all of the Ogden extension north of Chicago Avenue has been vacated.  The street’s former path can be traced in the swath of newer buildings angling through Old Town to Lincoln Park.
