Then and Now, Diversey-Logan

2022–the same location

Chicago’s own emerald necklace parkway system moves from Logan onto Diversey here at 2300-west, then crosses the Chicago River.  In 1936 a houseboat community was already long-established on the river.  Years later, this was the site of one of my wife’s most vivid childhood memories—the day her mother gunned the family Buick over the gap while the draw bridge was opening.

Today a fixed bridge crosses the river at Diversey.  The houseboats are gone.  But now Diversey-River Bowl sits on the near shore.
