Then and Now, Central-Foster

1972–Central Avenue @ Foster Avenue, view north

2021–the same location

Though regular trolley bus service ended on Central Avenue in 1970, the overhead wires were still in place two years later, so that the vehicles from Montrose and Irving Park could get to the barn at Elston-Armstrong.  Note also that in 1972 the northwest corner of Central and Foster is still an empty lot, decades after this neighborhood reached residential maturity.  Another case of commercial over-zoning.

The Central Avenue trolley bus wires finally came down in 1973.  Today the corner lot has finally been developed.  The older building down the block has been replaced, too.
