Then and Now, Kedzie-Belmont

1951–Kedzie Avenue @ Belmont Avenue, view north
2024–the same location

The 1951 photo shows the Chicago & North Western Railway angling through near the Kedzie-Belmont intersection. Notice that the traffic on Kedzie has dipped to pass under the viaduct, and now has climbed back up to reach the intersection.

Today the Kennedy Expressway runs parallel to the railroad line, and crosses over the intersection. That has resulted in some changes in the traffic pattern here, moderating the dip, but putting a pillar smack dab in the middle of everything.
