With the Edison Park station of the Chicago & North Western Railway a short block away, by 1957 Northwest Highway and the streets here had many businesses. A music store and a tile company are visible at the intersection. Down the block, a few restaurants can be spotted.
Today this stretch of Northwest Highway is a regular Restaurant Row. Zia’s Trattoria on the far right was where a 2001 episode of the Check, Please! TV show featured a young state senator named Barack Obama. (Whatever became of him?)
