Normal Boulevard was a two-mile-long Chicago Park District parkway linking Garfield Boulevard with Hamilton Park. The name of the street derived from the Chicago Normal School, a pioneering teacher-education college located just south of the photo location. Notice that in 1943 there was a sign directing traffic on how to stay on the boulevard.
Today the Chicago Normal School has become Chicago State University, with a large campus a few miles south of here. Meanwhile, Normal Boulevard has become plain old Normal Avenue, so there’s no need to worry if you miss the jog in the road.
