The buildings on the left side of the older photo are the Marshall Field Garden Apartments. The ten buildings were constructed by the Field family in 1929, to provide affordable housing while stabilizing a declining neighborhood.. By the time of that 1975 photo, the area was finally starting to rebound.

Today the apartment complex is under different ownership. The buildings have been renovated, though they still offer below-market rental units. The neighborhood has also seen much new construction.
