Then and Now, Kimbark-Marquette

1910–Kimbark Avenue @ Marquette Road, view south

2021–the same location

Here in Woodlawn, Marquette Road runs along the line of 66th Street. By 1910 this block of Kimbark Avenue was already solidly built up with apartment buildings. None of those new horseless carriages are in sight, though a large wagon can be seen taking something-or-another toward 67th Street and Oak Woods Cemetery.

Taller trees and autos are the most visible change in this block over the course of 111 years. The trees do hide some vacant lots. But there is also newer construction, most notably Woodlawn Community Elementary School at 67th Street.
