Then and Now, Mobile-58th

In 1946, with the Great Depression and World War II over, new home construction was starting to rebound. Getting ahead of the boom, the Chicago Park District was busy scouting sites for new parks. Here, just east of Narragansett Avenue, a prospective park location had already been staked out. That lone building would have to be torn down or moved.

Today this Garfield Ridge neighborhood is residentially mature. Wentworth Park encompasses most of the property bounded by Narragansett-58th-Mobile-56th, with Kinzie Elementary and Kennedy High Schools occupying the northern end of the site.
