Then and Now, Western-111th

1917–Western Avenue @ 111th Street, view north

2020–the same location

In 1917, three years after Chicago annexed the village of Morgan Park, Western Avenue at 111th Street was still a dirt road, with plentiful woods and few buildings. That would soon change.  Streetcar service was extended into the area on both streets in the next few years, spurring development.

A century after the older photo, Western is a commercial arterial street.  Are any of the trees now in place descendants of the trees in the 1917 photo?
