Then and Now, Division-Oakley

Our location is a block east of Western Avenue.  The 1939 photo shows streetcar tracks running down the middle of Division, which has led to the development of a ribbon commercial strip.  The large building on the south side of the street is one of the Chicago Surface Lines car barns.  At the Standard Oil station, gas is going for 16 cents per gallon.

Three-quarters of a century later, many older buildings still remain in place in the neighborhood.  However, this particular stretch of Division has been totally transformed, with Roberto Clemente High School now straddling the street.
