A Bit of Chicago Street Trivia

Sheridan Road and Broadway intersect three different times.

Elston Avenue begins and ends at Milwaukee Avenue.

Wacker Drive is the only Chicago street with all four direction indicators–North, South, East, West.

My thanks to Garry for bringing these facts up in the “Comment” box. That got me thinking about another bit of Chicago street trivia–“Which street intersects the same ‘L’ line four separate times?”

The answer is Lincoln Avenue. Here are the four places where Lincoln crosses under the Brown Line–

4630 north

4630 north

3630 north

3630 north

3400 north

3400 north

2550 north

2550 north

The address numbers are only approximate. And please don’t tell me that–technically–the last photo is really the Red Line, which Brown Line trains happen to share. In that event, I’ll have to revise the question to ask “What ‘L’ line crosses the same street four separate times?”

Sheridan Rd. Intersects the Red Line 4 times, also!

    1) At Sheridan East of the Sheffield/,Byron intersection, 2) At Sheridan south of Irving Park Rd, 3) East of Broadway/Devon/Sheridan intersection, 4) North of the Broadway/Devon/Sheridan intersection.

You’re so right! Sheridan is such a sneaky street–with all those right-angle turns–that I forgot about it.

Just hope you never have to tell 911 you have an emergency at Sheridan & Broadway- there are three of them!

I might like to add Interstates 90 and 94 and the Blue line as intersecting 4 times each.
    1. Underneath the Circle Interchange.
    2. Milwaukee Ave Subway.
    3. Between Belmont and Addison center running on the Kennedy.
    4a. Edens Interchange (I94).
    4b. 190 Spur (I90)

Also, the Purple line intersects with Clark street 4 times (during rush hour only). Twice in the Loop, at Sheffield & Roscoe, and just north of Howard. This last one is kind of a stretch since Clark becomes Chicago Ave north of Howard, but isn’t all the same Native American trail?
